Perfection: Year One Day 59 Devotional

Passage: Leviticus 4:1-5:13
Psalm and Proverbs: Psalm 59

Leviticus 4:2-3 (NASB)

“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a person sins unintentionally in any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, and commits any of them, if the anointed priest sins so as to bring guilt on the people, then he is to offer to the Lord a bull without defect as a sin offering for his sin which he has committed.

The concept of unintentional sins reveals the depravity of humans. We can sin without trying. No one is exempt from being a sinner—not the priest, not a leader, or ordinary people. We are all sinners in need of a savior. We need a greater priest to take away our sins. Jesus is both the sacrifice and our priest—without defect and sin. (Hebrews 5:1-10)

So, let us point those far from God to Jesus, and may we quit yielding to the temptation that we need Jesus plus anything. All we need is in Christ alone.

Father, I can only be amazed at all that Christ is to me. I am overwhelmed by mercy and grace. Help me to live a life that is bowed in worship.

Psalm 59:15-16 (NASB)

But as for me, I will sing of Your strength;
Yes, I will joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the morning,
For You have been my refuge
And a place of refuge on the day of my distress.
My strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my refuge, the God who shows me favor.

Passage: Leviticus 3
Psalm and Proverbs: Psalm 58

Leviticus 3:1 (NASB)

Now if his offering is a sacrifice of peace offerings, if he is going to offer from the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without defect before the Lord.

Peace offerings had to be of animals without any defect, as did all other sacrifices. The effects of sin in this fallen could not be visible on them. For us, Jesus is the perfect sacrifice. He lived a sinless life, and thus, was worthy of being an offering for our sin.

Father, I am so miserably sinful. I am unworthy in every way. Thank You that Christ lived the sinless life that I could not. Thank You for His once and all sacrifice for the sins of the world. He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Psalm 58:1-2 (NASB)

Do you indeed speak righteousness, you gods?
Do you judge fairly, you sons of mankind?
No, in heart you practice injustice;
On earth you clear a way for the violence of your hands.

A Sacrifice for Atonement: Year One Day 57 Devotional

Passage: Leviticus 1-2
Psalm and Proverbs: Psalm 57

Leviticus 1:4 (NASB)

And he shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so that it may be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf.

By laying hands on the sacrifice, a person identified with that animal. It was saying, “This animal is a sacrifice for me. It is a sacrifice for my sins.” To lay on hands was to declare faith that the sacrifice would atone for the person’s sins.

Jesus is our sacrifice. We identify with Him in our conversion through repentance and faith. He died for our sins because God loves us and wants to remove the barrier that our sin places between us. Jesus makes the way for us to come to God.

Father, I pray for my friends, family, and acquaintances who are far from You. I pray that the Spirit will work in them so that they may know their need for Jesus. May they come to You in repentance and faith.

Psalm 57:7-11 (NASB)

My heart is steadfast, God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
Awake, my glory!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise You, Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to You among the nations.
For Your goodness is great to the heavens
And Your truth to the clouds.
Be exalted above the heavens, God;
May Your glory be above all the earth.

Psalm 56:3-4 (NASB)

When I am afraid,
I will put my trust in You.
In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?

Psalm 55:16-18 (NASB)

As for me, I shall call upon God,
And the Lord will save me.
Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and moan,
And He will hear my voice.
He will redeem my soul in peace from the battle which is against me,
For they are many who are aggressive toward me.
